Date.ca has a pretty straight forward profile and search system. Premium membership will let you communicate with other members via e-mail, instant message and chat rooms. The site also has numerous articles by the well known 'pick-up artists' David DeAngelo and Christian Carter.
Review
The profile creation process has a lot of check boxes and limited writing space. Whether you like that or not is a matter of personal preference. Even a basic Date.ca profile has tons of info about the owner. Comedians and novelists might feel a bit constrained by the profile. Despite not posting their membership numbers, Date.ca seems pretty packed and you shouldn't have a problem finding people close to you by entering your area code. As always, look before you leap.
